Measles
As of 31 December 2020, 3 measles cases have been reported. Visitors to Tokyo need to pay attention.
Prevention
Measles virus is extremely contagious and can be transmitted from one patient to multiple people. The only effective means of preventing measles is acquiring immunity in advance by vaccination.
Rubella
In Tokyo, there was an outbreak of rubella in 2018. As of 31 December 2020, 28 rubella cases have been reported. Visitors to Tokyo need to pay attention.
Prevention
Rubella virus is transmitted via airborne droplets or direct contact. Rubella vaccine is effective for prevention. If you have never contracted the disease, have not been previously vaccinated, or are shown to have no immunity to rubella by an antibody test, please consider receiving the vaccine before you visit Tokyo.
